Hey, I'm sure you get a lot of new EMT threads on here, so sorry for the redundancy.

I took a 3 month course while working full time here in Orange County and passed that and NREMT about a month and a half ago. I am currently applying for a job (I have an interview on Monday with Pacific Ambulance) and keeping my fingers crossed that I get one soon.

I'm just worried about my first job. I know they give you a probationary period after hiring. But I don't feel confident in my knowledge and skills. I wish I had more hands on experience, more time to learn. I feel like there is still a ton of information in my book that I don't know, but I'm really not a fan of book learning. I prefer hands on learning.

Anyways, just venting my worries and hoping for some advice from the more experienced EMTs and Medics on here. Thanks guys.

If you are brand-spanking new they aren't going to expect you to do brain surgery on day 1, so don't worry too much about it.

Anybody that says they started their first day completely confident in their skills is either an idiot or flat out lying. Just keep your eyes open mouth shut and learn from your mistakes and you'll be fine. Don't be afraid to tell the people you're partnered with " hey I'm new so if you see me doing something dumb tell me". If someone asks you to do something and you're not confident, say "hey I'm not sure exactly how to do this can you walk me through it this time". It's better to look a little green than to screw something up.

You'll be fine. Might have to take an easy written test. I didn't even take a skills test to get hired.

After that you'll use just about nothing you learned and forget everything unless you study.
