Hi all,

I'm looking for a fast paced FD and am looking to go to medic school next year for a degree. I have looked around and I like the call volume at Prince Georges County, but from the things I've read on here about MD EMS I'm not sure if I should get my medic there because I may want to move back to OR some day. I guess I'm asking if MD schools specifically Prince George's Community College or any other in that area are respected schools and teach up to the standards of the rest of the US. I really appreciate your input, medic school is a big steep and I don't want to shoot my self in the foot.

PS I don't mean any disrespect to anyone.

All MD programs teach to the NREMT-P, meaning your paramedic will be just as valid as a program from OR. Their ALS protocols are a little behind the curve, but I don't think the programs are complete crap. I've never had experience with anyone who went to PGCC though.

If you're in PG, you'll be close to the medic programs in Northern Virginia too, I think Northern Virginia Community College has one.

If you volunteer with one of the volunteer departments, you can take paramedic through them for free. In Montgomery County MD, right next to Prince George's, there are many volunteer departments. The Montgomery County Fire Rescue Academy offers medic class every year.
