Looking for reflective trim

Anyone know where I can get some 3M (Scotchlite) reflective fabric trim, the kind that can be sewn onto garments? I think I'm looking for the 3M style 8471, a 1.5"-wide yellow/silver strip. The thing is, I can find whole rolls of this fairly easily, but I don't need 300 meters! So I'm just looking for some place to buy shorter strips, of either 8471 as I said, or maybe just a plain silver 1"-wide strip.

Also wondering if anyone knows where I can get a reflective embroidered Star of Life emblem suitable for applying to the back of a jacket, so 7" in diameter or larger.

Thanks! :)

Try the fabric/craft stores in your area. That's where I got it for a Halloween costume I made last year.

Some uniform stores will sew it on for you for cheap, especially if you bought the original garments there. Might be worth checking.

Have you tried E-Bay.
No, I don't really like eBay. I'd rather buy from a real business.

I don't really know any, and can't imagine why they'd have something like that on hand, but I'll check the phone book I guess.

Well, before they can "sew it on" for me, I have to have "it", which is what I'm asking about in this thread: where can I get "it".

What's with the attitude?

Wrong. The uniform stores I know all have it already. If they serve a high number of EMS types, as most of them do, I imagine they can work something out for the Star of Life.

I don't know any that would sell the tape separately, though.

Yeah... what could possibly possess a fabric store to stock reflective fabric?

I'd be more surprised if they don't. I've found much stranger things there.

What attitude do you perceive? I answered with a neutral attitude, neither cheerful nor negative. I haven't yet found any reason for ebullience, sorry. It's very hard to accurately perceive attitude and emotion when reading plain text, and isn't really worth trying, because words or phrasing that might convey one particular attitude to you, based on where you're from and your upbringing, might be completely different for another person.

To be honest, when I posted my previous reply, I suppose I had gotten a bit mixed-up in my mind regarding what I had actually asked for. For some reason, I had the Star of Life emblem, which was my secondary request, locked in the forefront of my mind, and that's what I was thinking of when I said I couldn't imagine why a fabric store would have something like that in stock. I apologize for the confusion, and you're right, fabric stores probably do have reflective fabric in stock. I'll check a few out tomorrow and see if they have exactly what I want.

My apologies for the confusion as well, then. What made me think you were being snide is the excessive use of quotation marks. Imagine saying the same sentence with air quotes--comes across as kind of condescending, doesn't it? The "I can't imagine" and "I guess" didn't really help.

I'd argue your point about attempting to convey emotion via text to a broad base of readers, though. Although it's harder, it's certainly possible. Editorials and op-eds provide the most obvious example that I can think of off the top of my head at this hour.

Actually there is a fair number of stores or real businesses that also sell online through EBay as well as a regular store. My cousin who sells toys in his business also sells them through EBay.

If I had said it out loud, I would have added extra emphasis on each "it". I probably should have italicized each instance instead, as that's a more appropriate way to indicate emphasis in written communication.

It certainly is very possible, but in the examples you cited, conveying attitudes or emotions (or inducing them) is usually the point, and a deliberate effort is made to do so. More than anything else, though, all I meant is that if you had heard and saw me say the exact words I wrote, there would have been very little doubt as to what my attitude was. Tone of voice, facial expression, and body language convey tremendously more attitude and emotion than can be written into a few short sentences. :)

I know Sands sells 3M reflective tape in 1 Meter strips, although - from what I see, only in 1' or 2' inch quantities. Not sure if that's going to work for your needs or not - but I figured I mention it and let you look for yourself.
