You can read the whole thing here. Note: It says it includes a video but I can't get it to play.

Flags are flying half staff in the town of Stonewall, as the town honors one of its own.

63-year-old volunteer firefighter George Wimberly, died while en route to a fire Wednesday.

(snip)

Officials say Wimberly was traveling southbound on Highway 513, less than a mile from the fire and less than half a mile from where he lived, when he is thought to have had a heart attack, causing his vehicle to come to a slow rolling stop in a convenience store parking lot.

I'm a member of this department. I only joined a bit over a month ago so I didn't know Mr. George as well but I did respect him greatly. We were on scene at a fully involved house fire when we found out that he was the medical call that they talk about in the story. After we got the fire out and were started to roll hose, we found out that he had died while en route to the hospital.

I realize that this is an EMT website but I posted this as a reminder. Take care of yourselves. Always tell your loved ones how you feel, especially if you have a significant other and you're on the way to a call. Plus you never know when your time is up so make the most of every moment. Mr. George died doing what he loved. His wife finds great peace in that fact.
