Family blames EMS for son's death
(Lexington) April 12, 2006 - We count on EMS to help us in an emergency, but one Lexington County family believes the system failed them. In fact, they blame responders for their son's death.
In 2003, Michael Cockrell was the only high school senior in Lexington County with perfect attendance from first to 12th grade.
He left for the Citadel with other goals he'd never meet. Michael was driving home from college two years ago this week when he got in a car crash along a stretch of St. Paul's Church Road.
Now, his parents are suing Lexington County, saying EMS didn't do enough to save their son's life. Attorney Mike Kelly claims, "The Lexington County EMS personnel failed to prioritize what needed to happen."
Kelly has filed a lawsuit accusing Lexington County of not sending enough people to the scene.
