Hey guys.
I've been a ghost around here reading up but I finally have something to say now that I've taken my practical exam. I passed all stations except the spine station. I got the KED, and realised afterwards that I had spent too much of my practice time on the long board.
I had a brain fart, and put the leg straps around one leg then clipped it into the same side, I thought I was doing it right. Everything else was flawless, but I got called back over a dumb mistake.
I went into the test very confident, and very prepared, so I thought. So when I failed and had to go back I was a bit rattled. Now I had to do this perfect and couldn't afford another mistake.
I was too fixated on the straps this time, and skipped the C collar! Oh no! I called for manual stab. but jumped right into the KED. After I had the straps on I relised my mistake. I stopped, turned to the examiner and told her I should have put the collar on before the straps, she wrote down some nots on my exam sheet, and I continued. I turned out a fine product in the end, but I had made another misstep.
How often do people fail after correting a critical mistake like I did? I'm looking forward to being an EMT, and I don't want to have to wait longer to retest if that's the case.
