Hello all!

I am taking the EMT-B (PARM 102) course at Ivy Tech (Northwest: Michigan City) in June.

I just wanted to know if anyone has taken the course, and if so, how it is.
Also, what things do I need besides the textbook(s)?

Thank you!

I did my EMT-B at Ivy Tech Lawrence (NE Indy) last year spring semester. It was straightforward and well-presented. We used Blackboard and all the classroom materials like the syllabus and the .ppt presentations were available online.

Keep up with class, don't get behind. Pay attention in class and you'll do fine.

Glad to know Blackboard was utilized.

Did you have to submit a drug test, get a physical, or get tested for TB?
What things did you need for the class beforehand (like uniform, shears, scope, BP cuff, etc.)? I want to get a leg up before June 9th.

I had to do a drug test, I didn't have to have a physical but I did have to prove I was up to date on my vaccines (we were provided a list of specific required vaxes) and yes I did do a TB test.

The only thing we "had" to have for class was the classroom book. The workbook was an optional purchase, there were a few extra credit assignments from the workbook but the instructor made those pages available for people who did not purchase the workbook.

I did buy a Littmann stethoscope, but it was NOT a required purchase. I knew I'd want one of my own eventually, so I figured I'd just go ahead and get one. The school had all the gear we needed for class in the classroom, stethoscopes, cuffs, etc. There was no *need* to buy any of it.

We didn't have a uniform.. For our clinicals we were required to wear either black or navy pants (not jeans) and a white collared shirt with no logos. Shoes had to be plain black without logos or embellishments, no boots were allowed for the hospital hours.
