OK, I am in charge of the supply and equipment for my service. We are an ALS service. In our ALS jump bag, we carry 3 IV sets each set has 1 - 16 ga, 2 - 18 ga, 2 - 20 ga, and 2 - 22 ga. Inside our ALS drawer in the rig we have every size ranging from 14 ga to 24 ga. I have gotten into some heated discussions with some of our other ALS members about taking the 24 ga out of the kits and stocking them with some 14s and another 16. There is just not enough room. The bag we are using in a Thomas Pack, and there are not enough syringe storage on the kit for all of the sizes.

What do you carry? Since there is no set of guildlines out there, I would like to get a feel for what some other services are doing.

Thank you

Do you mean IV caths?

You need the 24ga in there for peds pt's. I know the thomas pak IV kit will hold about 10 IV caths. I would stock 1-14,2-16,2-18,2-20,2-22,1-24. That should do for what ever you have.

Yeah sorry, I meant IV Caths..... its early, and I am still waking up...

We have an IV tray, a First In Bag, and a Big Bag. Each has the following set: 14 x 2, 16 x 2, 18 x 2, 20 x 2, 22 x 2, 24 x 2. We don't even carry 24s.

We have a small plastic ziplock bag that has an IV start kit, Saline lock, Luer Lock adapter, 1 ea of IV Cath 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 ga. and a set of vacutubes for blood draws. This all fits in a bag that is 3" by 6". Then we tape a set of tubing to the Solution bag. If we need extra caths we get them from the rig.
