Hello everyone. Let me start by saying that I am not an EMT. I have been to both the USMC and US Army CLS courses, but that is it so I my ask some dumb questions.

I am here to ask some questions about Ipod touch applications for a soon to be Paramedic. My wife has 2 more semesters of school until she gets her degree in paramedicine. As a gift I would like to get her an Ipod touch with all the best apps for someone like her already installed. What do you guys use and recommend?
Thanks for any help and stay safe.

Don't have any for iPod, I have a blackberry. Slight hijack anyone who has a blackberry, there's a good ECG App under Personal Health and Wellness for $8. Truly a useful app to learn and keep up ECG knowledge.

On my iPhone:

DxSaurus (differential diagnosis)
MedSpanish
Epocrates
ECG Guide
MotionX GPS (topographic maps for search and rescue)
HazRef (Hazmat)

I also recommend Police Scanner if your area has an online stream of a local scanner.

Now I must say that your wife will probably never use these on a call. She should have most of the information in these apps memorized for an emergency. They are a great reference for downtime at the station though.

I'd look for a med math app if there's one out there too maybe.

So I got my gf (well ex now lol) Instant ECG, Drug Infusion, Top 200 drugs, EMS Logger Pro,and Emergency Response Guide which is awesome as it is a searchable version of the DOT book in all US ambulances.... Most of those are free or under 3 or 4 bucks.... Hope that helps

Thank you so much everyone this helps a bunch. Going to get it for her on Saturday, I think she's gonna love it.

Epocrates...has that pill feature you can input pill design and features to get a ID on the pill. Helpful on those pill-parties kids have nowadays - not to mention a listing of medications, effects, interactions, indications/contraindications, etc.

The paid version of epocrates has the pill identifier. You can always call poison control and they will identiy for you faster than you can find it in epocrates. FYI :)
