Probably a stupid question, but it's not very obvious to me.
Rarely do people stay at home when they have common cold. Most go to work as usual.
Healthcare providers are in a bit special situation since they are likely to work with a lot of people who are already sick, weak, and have week immune systems. Furthermore, in EMS you are stuck with a patient in a small closed space, which make it easier to spread infection. It is also not the job where you can easily take a few days off.
So, here is my question: when you have, say, common cold, what measures do you take to prevent infecting your patients?

at the nursing homes, they normally suggested always wear your gloves, wash your hands a lot, and surgical mask to prevent breathing, coughing, or blowing the cold virus all over everyone and every thing.

don't know what, if any, procedures are in place where you work, but these sound reasonable, and seemed to work we well as any.
