Farmhouse blaze kills firefighter

By Will Higgins

A volunteer firefighter died this morning when he failed to make it out of a house fire at a renowned horse farm in southern Indiana.

Greg Cloud, 33, with the Kent Fire Company just west of Madison in Jefferson County, was called to a blaze at 1 a.m.
Kent Fire spokesman Larry Sedam said Cloud and two other firefighters entered the home but were confronted by a sudden surge of flames.

The other two firefighters ran out, but Cloud did not escape. When they returned for him, he was dead.

Cloud was married but had no children.

The fire also injured Madison Township Fire Chief Robert Black, who was slated to undergo surgery this afternoon at Kings Daughters Hospital, officials said.
