I will be running for the position of town councillor here in Fort Smith. I can and will remain a member of my towns ambulance service. If elected I can still go on calls but I won't be getting paid like the others in our paid on call dept. Since I will be remaining with my service I will have to leave council chambers whenever any discussion or vote on ambulance matters taken place. I can still talk to the other councillor unofficially about ambulance matters.

Best of luck to you! Glad I double checked your location, Fort Smith is also a town in Arkansas, US. Have relatives there. :P

Can you at least give information to the other members regarding ambulance and other public safety topics?

Politics + EMS = Very Very Bad, at least in my personal experience.

I had to leave one of the Rescue Squads I was working with because my Father is running for Mayor of my city. His campaign brought "Unwanted Attention" to the operations of the squad and the brass didn't like what He was proposing for EMS operations in the city. I wish you good luck in your run for councilor, I hope that politics doesn't negatively affect your service in EMS as it did mine.

I filed my nomination today so I am officially a candidate for the position of Town Councillor.

Congrats, good luck.

I'm not the only emergency worker running in the election. The other two are members of the VFD they are a fire captain and firefighter.
