I'm a paramedic student.
I just passed ACLS and now we are into heavier scenarios in class.
The dynamic cardiology is kicking my butt and I go home discouraged and more insecure each time.
I need tutoring in a few areas... One of them being the pharmacology.
Does anyone here feel strong enough in these areas they would consider phone tutoring me?
I've asked for help at school but this class are a bunch of loners.
Desperately yours,
Jenni

Cardiology and Pharmacology kick everyone's butt. Don't worry! You're not alone. I felt the exact same way in class.

For me: I just kept at cardiology and one day it all just clicked. ACLS suddenly was a breeze. Spend a lot of hours studying, especially your pharm. That will help with cardiology.

For pharmacology: I took all of the drugs I had to remember and recorded them. Played them over and over 3-4 hours a day. Then I would get out paper, write down everything I could by memory. Anything I couldn't, I re-recorded and only listened to that. Wrote it out on paper and then repeated. In addition, I did flashcards at the same time. Ones that became easy, I put in a pile, and only studied the hard ones. Pharmacology is just repetition. Then, once you have the knowledge, getting out there in clinicals and applying it (providing dosages and indications are the same per protocol wherever you are).

Going back to cardiology: How's your static cardiology too? Has your class practiced megacodes yet? Have you guys studied some version of ACLS yet?

Thanks for the insight!!! Nice to hear I'm not in that boat alone!

Yes we are doing mega codes now. This is where I feel myself falling behind.
I don't have anyone to study with and just don't feel the click yet.

I guess I get worried that I'm just not cut out for this.., but I've come this far.. I'm not giving up!
I know I just need some help!

If you work on a department, try seeing if you can practice megacodes there. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to practice with you as well.

Also, tell your teacher it's not clicking. Any quality teacher will help you learn what you need to before or after class, or at some other scheduled time. Trust me, people all over have problems with this same stuff when they learn it in medic school. You're not the first!
