My recently solidified decision to "call" people getting into the perpetual threads of arming EMS in America created friction and decreased some members' enjoyment of the website. For that I apologize and will try not to keep being intrusive in those conversations. If it bugs me, I'll remember that there are plenty of other threads in the site and will take my grumpy self to them, or start another one.

With all respect to those folks, however, I am going to try to enlist the forum members to gather and professionally cite/discuss objective and official data about the basis of this apparently mounting fear of workplace violence among EMS workers.
Stay tuned.

 <_<

I blame fox news (and news in general). Everyone is paranoid these days. Even though violent crime is down in general the constant bombardment of info on the latest horrific murder that we are subjected to makes everyone think they might be next.

thats limited to Fox News? I am not a fan of Fox but what your explaining occurred before Fox News existed and occurs on all other networks.

I think I'm gonna like it here. To the grumpy old man: keep up the good work. the more conflict with idiots, the better.

Thanks Rob! But I have to remember something:

"We're all Bozos on this bus".

Everyone does something or thinks something sometimes that either makes little sense, or makes other people upset or feel belittled. The more frequently we post, or reply, or start threads, the more frequently we can make a misstep.
I'm not (always) trying to fix anyone, and the tone of a public site run by private individuals has to be pretty overall neutral, or many folks can't have their say and enjoy themselves.
If I feel too good about "fixing the Bozos" (to con a phrase) it probably means I'm becoming an ogre. Or troll or whatever.

PS: Thanks, "Wavy Gravy" (Gurney Norman) for inventing that phrase for the Firesign Theater. His picture is used withot permission.

Ps:

The related thread about job-related homicide turned up limited statistics, but Philadelphia's seemed to indicate, even in that violent city, that you had a higher chance of dying due to bad driving than by being attacked by a patient or bystander.
