How well do meds stay mixed?

This kind of occurred to me while reading the thread about the epi dilution.

How well do medications stay mixed?

If I put 2g of magnesium sulfate into 50cc bag of saline, swish it about a bit to mix it initially and then hang it but don't use it for a couple hours, will I need to re-mix the contents or will it stay as a homogenous mixture?

Most medications, once mixed, do not "settle out". There are of course exceptions, including anything that is a suspension of particulates or lipid-containing molecules, as well as incompatible drugs that might precipitate when mixed with the wrong fluid.
 
I believe 24 hours for compatible meds is the JAHCO acceptable time frame.
 
How long they can be left in combination with other drugs is sometimes listed in the prescribing information on drugs.com

Physically and Chemically Compatible Up to 48 Hours

Cimetidine Hydrochloride (SK&F), Mannitol, USP (Hospira), Potassium Acetate, USP (Invenex), Potassium Phosphate, USP (Invenex).

Physically Compatible Up to 48 Hours
