My wife is planning on taking an RN position at North Cypress Medical Center, so we are moving to Houston (NW, Cypress/Tomball area) in the next couple of months, so I'll need to find an EMT-B job. What are the three to four best EMS companies to work for in Houston? I don't care about transporting cause that's the same thing EMT-B's start out doing in CA.

My goal is to work as an EMT-B for maybe six months, and then move on to medic school. Applying/Going to medic school at this time is not an option.

As an EMT-Basic, it's going to be tough. There are/were over 200 IFT companies when I worked around those parts. I'd try applying for Cypress Creek EMS and Northwest EMS (Tomball), possibly ETMC (I think they run Pasadena) and Galveston EMS, although I don't know much about the last two. I know CCEMS and NWEMS are reputable and employ at least a few EMT-B's for 911.

thanks for the info

PM me and I can provide some reliable info on several private IFT companies that can offer you stable and secure employment. As Cypress Creek alumni, I can tell you there are several volunteers that have been members for years that are still awaiting paid job offers, it is unlikely you can walk in and fill out an application and then walk out with a job in the near future.

NWEMS in Tomball may be an option, Brian Petrilla is their chief and a good point of contact.

ETMC runs the city of Pasadena. That's a long trip for substandard pay, long hours, and a rough 'hood to work in. Personally, I wouldn't consider them an option.

Galveston EMS is a decent organization, however you are talking about a 2 hour commute. I'd ask myself it was worth it at EMT-B pay..................

Cy-Fair Fire Department would also be an option to look at. I haven't heard a lot about them lately, but I know their pay is on par with other decent agencies in the area.

Shoot me a PM and I'll help you out............
