So I am currently a freshman in high school, and this following year (my sophomore year) my school will be having a EMR (Emergency Medical Responder) class. I did sign up for it, and I am curious on what they would teach. I am positive they will teach first aid and more, but I am curious if they take us with our local EMS units so we can know about everything. What else would they teach and would the EMS thing be a possibility?

EMR is basically first aid. It's pretty simple and straightforward.

As to taking you to the local EMS units, that's entirely up to your course instructor. There's nothing in the curriculum that says they have to, but it could be interesting.

Depending on local and state protocol generally the EMR is allowed to and trained for CPR, Positive pressure ventilations Via Breathing Barrier or Or Bag valve mask, Oral Suctioning, oxygen administration and packaging of patients for example the use of the KED Or long Back Board. Different places allow Different things look up or ask your teacher about your local protocol it's defiantly a good insight to EMS.

According to Utah Protocol, it says that trainers are required to ride along, so I am assuming we have something to do with that. Not to mention, the students in this class are the first responders for school emergencies.

I hope you get a lot from this high school course. It will only help you in the long run.
