Hi all,

My name is Robert Dobo, but everybody calls me Dobo. I have been working in Engineering as a Field Party Chief doing Surveying work for the past 12 years and I felt it was time for a change. So I am off to Calgary in a couple weeks to tackle the EMR training as well as a few other medical and health and safety certificates while I am in Calgary. I currently live in Barrie an hour north of Toronto and am wanting to move to Northern Alberta. So here I be a medic in training.

I look forward from learning from you all,

Robert M Dobo

The best medics I've ever known were those who took a huge pay cut to change career later in life. They make the best EMS supervisors as well, in my opinion. Good luck.

Edit: Although, that being said, medics in Canada are paid quite well, I hear.

No worries about that I will probably be on here every night asking for help with my homework LOL

Ugh...homework, it's been a long time since I said that word LOL

And in reply to Hastings:

I hope you are right, I hope I can perform when performance is needed. It is a whole different world when a persons well being is in your hands. With that being said though it is a pay cut I am sure the career change will be a lot more rewarding in the long run, money isn't everything and to be able to help people is a greatly rewarding

I have yet to meet a single person who has made the career change later in life that has regretted it. Huge pay cut, and yet infinitely more rewarding. My partner actually calls it his half-retirement, because he just loves doing it every day.

Welcome Dobo,

Which school will you be attending in Calgary? (If you don't mind me asking?) I am in the process of obtaining my EMT certification and loving every moment of it! I am starting later in life, so I understand the homework part. My daughter thinks I'm a geek, but I must admit, she does seem to be putting a little more effort into her homework......double bonus!!

Any questions about Calgary, ask away.

Alberta Health and Safety Training Institute

I looked around and from what I could tell it was a good school, I am doing my EMR and then in a year or so upgrade to EMT, gotta make the money to pay for it though LOL

Welcome to the tribe!!! ^_^:)^_^

Thank you for the warm greeting everyone, I think you are going to see a lot of me, because I have about a million questions and there seem to be some quite knowledgeable people here :)

Just remember, often instead of 'an answer' you will receive 'a discussion'

Oh yeah I have learnt well that you don't look for answers on the internet because you never know who you are talking to but guidance is a different thing
