CHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. -- A medical helicopter had to make an emergency landing just after takeoff in Schuylkill County Friday night.

Here is the full story- http://www.wgal.com/news/16444325/detail.html

Hmm, why am I the one to bring the stories of Med Choppers.

I saw the story on the newswire earlier but I was distracted by the author's need to get a certain amount of sentences into his writing.

Glad everyone in this accident is okay also. Both crashes demonstrate the abilities of the pilots to prevent the loss of life.

This one is close to home... That service covers parts of my county. I'm VERY glad that everyone is OK.

I think it is odd that neither this or the other recent "injury" accident has made it onto the Concern list.

well atleast this time everyone made it out. better than the last one.

Just to clarify... everyone got out of the last one, too:
The helicopter that argued with the hospital (and lost) on 5/29/08 had 2 occupants, both injured (both pilots, I think). Thread HERE http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?t=7902

The helicopter that crashed after takeoff on 5/11/08 (?) had a crew of 3... all fatally injured. Thread HERE: http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?t=7719

Still... Aeromedical is a dangerous industry. Air ambulances argue with the laws of physics on every flight. Looking at the photos of this accident (Schuylkill County Medevac)... the helicopter looks like it was destroyed in the crash... but all the occupants survived... with what sounds like minor injuries. Maybe we need to take some lessons from the aeromedical industry. I look at the seats in the local helicopters, and they are designed to break apart and sacrifice themselves to reduce energy transferred to the passenger. Passenger cars do the same thing. Additionally... Aeromedical crews ALWAYS wear their seatbelts.
