I have 6 family members stuck in some podunk hospital in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. They can't travel back home because their platelets have dropped so low.. Grandpa (retired cop, great health) is 72, been posting during his vaycay on Facebook. I've been watching this over the last few days.. He's a very tough old man, but this one took him down for the count.
His posts continue, they've all been getting worse over the last three days, Grandpa's son (also a cop) had a platelet count of 82K/ul yesterday. We've made arrangements for them to check into a Level 2 as soon as they get home. We're hoping they can fly out tonight sometime.
What a crappy way for the old man to spend a vacation. I don't want to let him leave the house ever again, my nerves are shot, I'm worried about the plane trip for him, if the altitude changes are going to have any effect on them..
