Can I expect that after schooling as an EMT-B that I will be able to get a job on an ambulance? I'm in Las Vegas. I expect to complete the schooling for EMT-B and get a job with that, and then go to school to get cert'd as an EMT-I, and If I like it enough I maybe continue on to go to paramedic school. I can certainly go to Paramedic school right after getting the Basic cert. However, if I can't get a job with just the B on an ambulance. I feel I wont have enough "field" experience.
I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks here. I don't want to immediately become a Paramedic right away. I want to work on an ambulance for at least a year as an EMT-B or EMT-I before going to school for that. (Enough time to save money for the classes)

I'm attending NCTI. I've heard good and bad things about this college. I hope I didn't jump the gun on choosing a place for schooling. However, right now it's the only one that fits my schedule.

Good luck im thinking same thing and looking for a school in midwest thinking of a move though

You can probably expect to start on the ambulance after you are certified. I don't know about where you are trying to get a job, but with some places, they want you to volunteer for a while with them, then you can get paid. I would suggest that you work as an emt-b for at least a year then go to medic school/emt-i school. It will help you greatly because there are just some things that you can't learn in class, you need field time. Good luck with everything.

Well guys, my plan is to get my EMT-B and get a job (does AMR hire out of it's school?) Once I get a job as an EMT-B I'm going to go to school for EMT-I (as soon as I can - but I need cash flow. Because right now I'm broke paying for this first class... So I'm praying I get a job fresh out of class) and about one year after I take the EMT-I class and I have some experience behind me I will have hopefully of saved enough to pay for the Paramedic school.

This is my plan anyway. Is it realistic to expect to get a job within a couple of months after school? Has anyone been hired on to AMR, through NCTI?

Have you done any research? AMR and Medicwest, are part of the same company EMSC. What you need to do is go volunteer whenever you can after you finish school. I dont know about AMR, but medicwest has a special events department that seems to have alot of basics. Its a start, then over time you can get into the ILS street trucks. But 85% of the time your doing inter facilty transports. So yes, you could be able to find a job, get to know your teachers, because alot of them are paramedics at AMR or medicwest.
