Hello,

I received my EMT-B certification in 2005 and worked as an EMT-B until 2007. Since then I have done other jobs and have not maintained my certification. I am considering going back to work part time as an EMT-B and I am wondering what I would need to do to become certified again? I was certified in and still live in Pennsylvania.

Any answers or input would be appreciated. Thanks! :)

If they are an nremt state you will need to go through a new emt course as your cert has lapsed by 2 years. If they are not nremt you can probably find the answer on the state ems website.

Can't you just take a refresher course?

I believe this is true if your cert is expired less than 2 years. You need to check with your state and or nremt to be sure.

Some states only require nremt for initial certification. Some require you to keep it. Each state will have different rules but the nremt standard is. If your cert is expired by 2 years or more you need to repeat the class. Honestly though most classes are like 150 hours or less and are not that expensive.
