Before I entered into critical care transport and started working with peds and neonates, I never realized how interesting the fetal circulation was. Even more interesting is the defects that these kiddos can end up with, and the amazing ways they are fixed.
I believe AHA is putting new information into the PALS guidelines concerning infants with single ventricle anatomy and ductal dependent heart defects (hypoplasts, coarcts, etc.) This is also taking into consideration what type of repair they have had, and what stage of repair they are in (i.e. Fontan, Hemi Fontan, BD Glenn, Norwood, etc.)
Like I said earlier, very interesting stuff...these little guys will make you work harder than any other patient you have ever had!
