Hi everyone,
I am a young aspiring screenwriter and I am currently putting together a short script that is focused on a main character who is a paramedic. Basically, I am on this board to ask some questions about medical procedures that an EMT in an Advanced Life Support ambulance would be able to administer to a patient. I also need to understand the way that EMT's speak as in what phrases they may use that stand for certain medical conditions, types of emergency situations, and various medical procedure, etc. And I also would like to learn how communication over the ambulance radio sounds and specifically how such a conversation with the dispatcher would go when an EMT-P receives a call to an emergency scene.
If any EMT's on here have had experience with gunshot wound patients or suicide attempts I would really appreciate it if you would be willing to take some time to walk me through how they would be sustained on the drive to the hospital (specific locations of the wounds, specific medical procedures and the names of the medications, IV's etc). The scenerios need to be near fatal as can be so I can convey a strong sense of urgency in the script.
I know this is a really tall order but I would very much appreciate the help because I don't have any background experience in the EMT profession. I would really like to get the research only from those who have experienced such situations first hand (I feel this kind of research is more realistic than researching in a medical book). If anyone on this board is willing to take some time to help me out I would be very grateful. Reply to the thread when you can. Thank you!
