Hi, I have a little bit of a complicated situation so I wanted to get some advice from different people... In 2012 I was in the U.S. Coast Guard and they had a few of us go to EMT school, I passed the NREMT and was certified and they were content with that. I never got a state license because I wasn't told I needed one, at the time I was stationed in Hawaii. Then after about a year I was transfered overseas. I got to take a combat medic course as part of the pre deployment training, which they said could count as CEs. But once I was overseas there were no other classes offered and my qualification lapsed. My two year deadline for recertification is coming up this March. I've separated from the military now and was trying to figure out what I wanted to do, and realized I really loved running medical cases and want to do that in the civilian world. I'm taking a 24 hour refresher course this week, and then hope to do my skills test and retake the NREMT before the end of march. But I just realized on the website it says for recertification you have to be currently practicing. Does anyone know if I will still be able to recertify if I'm not practicing right now, but I want to get back in the field? Is it even feasible that I get all this done in such a short time frame? Also, I'm currently living in Texas, so if anyone has any advice or input for Texas licensure specifically I would really appreciate it. Sorry for such a long explanation, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
