I have talked with some medics with the local FD's (Vancouver, WA) who have told me they went straight from EMT-B school right into Paramedic school. Just wondering if anyone else has done this. Is it recommended? Alot of the Paramedic school applications I have looked at want references from nurses, instructors, etc. Seems like these might be tough references to get when you only have completed an EMT Basic course. Yes? No?

I'm not sure how it works in WA, but here in CA, that would be tough to do. I have applied but have not yet started Paramedic School. From my research, most of the Paramedic Schools and Private Paramedic programs here in California require prereqs above and beyond graduating from EMT school.

Many include Anatomy and Physiology, and or a combination of either 6 months active or 1 year completed EMT field experience just to apply.

Then, if your applicaitons is accepted, you take an enterance exam(must pass with at least 70%), if so, then move on to oral interviews before finding out if you are an accepted candidate for the Paramedic Program.

As in any case, there are a few exceptions to this rule but for the most part, a combination of all or some of the above usually apply.

i went from an emt - b to a paramedic. if you study hard and bust your *** youll be fine.

Some programs require previous EMS experience in order to get into paramedic, however, a lot of places do not.

I went straight from EMT-B to paramedic school and I did absolutely fine. It's all about dedication, and if you put in the work, then you shouldn't have too hard of a time with medic school.
