Hello,
I am a newly certified EMT-B and i moved from California to Georgia, only to find out that in Georgia almost all the Ambulance companies employ only EMT-INTERMEDIATE.Please,how can where and how can i get a training to move up tp INTERMEDIATE Level.I am desperate to move up soonest because i need a job and can't get it with my Basic here in Georgai.

Have you made any phone calls? Check with local ambulance company's and medical centers to see if they offer EMS education.

- HAZMAT

Try volunteer fire departments. It's not too rare to find ones that offer free training in return for volunteering.

I ran into the same issue when I moved to Savannah. I am currently in an EMT-I class through Rescue Training Inc. Awesome school. You might be able to contact them and see if they have any reccommendations for schools in Atlanta.

...skip the intermediate and go medic. From what I hear... its a waste and you should save the time and money and just go to straight medic

I think you should do I then medic its definetly useful to take your time with it so you dont just get thrown to the wolves. Look at your local community colleges or medical campus's. Meanwhile you can always see if theres a casino near by I know they will usually hire emt-b's or you can try to be an E.R. Tech at the hospital

I say go straight to Paramedic; but, take some college A&P, pharmacology, research methods and communications classes first. Might want to throw in some biology or chemistry too.

hey im currently in emt i school at medix college in smyrna ga, they offer paramedic classes, stop by and check it out! i love it there

Have you tried private services in ATL? They may hire basics for transports but the pay will be horrid. Almost all EMS in GA is with fire so I would check with them. The Glynn county area has a good program. That is 4 hours south of Atlanta so you would have to move. It is where I grew up and I highly encourage anyone to check it out. I would say it's the best part of GA but I'm biased.
Most people I know that are medics or are working on it now say they are glad they were intermediates before going to medic school. I would do it for knowledge while taking the prerequisites for medic school. Then at least you will be able to work while getting your medic.

How it works in my area is EMT-I is a step in getting your Paramedic. You enroll in EMT-P and 1st semester test at I, 2nd at Medic and 2nd year Para (if all med. rotations are done on time). So don't stop at I. Also if you belong to a volly squad the 1st year is paid for by our county. So def. check out different volly squads. I didn't catch where you are moving from, but if you are out of state have your NREMT and check to see if that state honors it. I know most do, but my state does not so it's something to look into.

Georgia is national registry.

Also in Georgia (at least in the county I'm from) they do a class that's basic then intermediate (the basic portion is only about a month) and then you take another class for paramedic.

If you are near Acworth,Ga. North Metro college has a really good EMT/Paramedic class. After you obtain EMT-B you can directly go to EMT-I class and finish up all of your EMT in one year. Then they have a Paramedic class you can take after you recieve EMT-I which is about a year and a quarter class for EMT/Paramedic. Really cool friendly, good teaching Professors that are actually Paramedics w/ advanced training.
