Hello, right now i live in the grand rapids area, but soon my wife and I are going to be moving to the Coldwater area, i would like to start emt training, I'm just wondering what are some good schools down there, thanks a lot.
Reading Emergency Unit's Hillsdale training center is where I took my EMT- B and will start the Medic class this winter. The people over there are great. They not only teach, but to understand the how's and why's of what you are doing. I can honestly say I breezed through the registry. Oh, and Hillsdale is about 15-20 minutes from Coldwater. You can get all the info at www.readingemergency.org under the education section. When you call ask for Dave.
Lansing Community College has a nationally accredited EMS program with MFR, EMT-B, & EMT-P courses. I recently finished the EMT-B course and now am in my second week of the paramedic program. The EMS program is great and the facility is brand new with alot of nice equipment and simulation rooms, It even has a full size rear of an ambulance patient care area in a room. the lights even work although they disconnected the siren...
Anyway its a good place for the EMT-B because when it comes to the NREMT and state licenser the practical final counts for the NREMT practical so you only have to take the NREMT computer exam because of the national accreditation. Plus all the instructors know their stuff and have all been in the business of EMS for a long time and you can learn a lot. The EMT-B course is offered as either a 1 semester Monday-Thursday all day class load, or a 2 semester Tuesday & Wednesday nights class load for those who work during the day.
