Hi, was planning on taking an EMT class this summer after I finish up college. The local ambulance service looking to volunteer at is having an EMT class this coming spring. With focus on finishing school worried that taking an EMT class might lessen my focus. Looking at the possibility at taking the class in the summer is it something to wait for? Or is it doable to take it during the spring?

Another question is there normally any volunteer positions for a non-MRT/EMT certified person at a volunteer ambulance company? Before I even ask is there any way to volunteer while I wait to be certified. Thanks for the feedback.

Personally, I think that when you take the course is totally up to you. I waited until I was finished with college before I started seriously thinking about starting an EMT class. All I wanted to do my last semester was graduate. As far as volunteering, I know that there are certain hospitals that allow you to volunteer in their emergency departments. I know several people who did this. You do not have to be an EMT (or anything, really) to volunteer in a hospital. I cannot say that all hospitals will allow you to be in the ER, but some do. You might want to ask around at your local hospitals.

it depends how much you could put into it. youll HAVE to study alot and maybe even get together a group to practice skills...it just depends but taking 13 units and working full time it wasnt a problem for me you just have to make time for it.
