Hello everyone
I'm new here so please don't hesitate correct me :)
I'm a paramedic in Poland and I'll be in Canada in few days. I want to know something about canadian EMS system. Exactly my destination is Calgary. Is there any possibility to have some practice there or attend some emergency medical course ? I'll be there for the first half of January. I'll be very excited if I can see the canadian EMS system up close and meet with colleagues from Calgary.
Greetings from Poland
David

Welcome. I believe there are a few medic schools in or around Calgary but I am not 100% sure. I don't work for the provincial ambulance service so I am not sure their policy on ride alongs. I know there is at least 1 medic from Calgary that's a member here but he doesn't log in to often.

For schools:
AHATSI
SAIT
promedics

Not sure on most places ride along policy I believe Alberta Health Services would be a good place to start. Or you could look into Airdrie fire department, they're integrated so have EMS as well as fire, they might be a little more open to ride alongs.

Hey DavePL,

Here in Alberta we have individual colleges, tech schools, and universities that train our EMR's, EMT's, and Paramedics, but to work here in Alberta you would have to be a member of our governing college - Alberta College of Paramedics, to work in the province.

I can't honestly tell you if it would be an easy task becoming a member with them and I know it would cost you a minimum $485 year dues IF they allow your school from poland be an accredited source of training for Alberta Scope of Practice. Check out their website at collegeofparamedics.org and a email/phone number should be present in the Contact Us tab.

Best of luck to you mate!

Nate
