Hi, I am just wondering if anyone has taken their schooling for EMT or Paramedic in a country other then Canada and then became registered in Canada? I know you have to apply for equivalence in whichever province you are applying for registration but has anyone actually done this successfully and what school did you go to? I am an EMR in Alberta but interested in taking further schooling internationally. Any experiences/stories would be appreciated! Thanks

I was trained in the us and I had no problem licensing in Canada. The program I went to is recognized as equivilant to cma standards by nb and ns. There are no extra fees or audits done if you went to this particular school. Mind you I live on the east coast. I am licensed in nb, ns, ab and bc with no restrictions.

It was much cheaper than going to school in Canada. I got My pcp (EMT )and acp( paramedic )for less than most charge for EMT. I had to put in a lot of extra time and self study as the Canadian standards are higher and the licensing exams are harder.

That's good to know! What school was it?

Thank you! Ill check it out :) I'm too new to this forum site to reply to your PM. Was the ACP exam quite difficult with your schooling? Are all the provinces your registered in fairly similar with their testing?

I never had to write the AB or BC exams. I had to write the nb and ns ones. I was able to transfer my licenses to bc and ab. I put in a lot of extra time. My instructors were great and stayed longer after class and labs to work on content and skills that were not a part of the regular program. I was well prepared and did well on all of my licensing exams.

I'd also like some information on this if possible. I'm toying with the idea of doing training division's course from texas

Texas was where I was really wanting to go too. I know a couple people who did their fire training in Texas and said it was really good and a lot cheaper and they had no problem getting jobs once they came back here but I don't know what it's like for emts

Hey do you think you could send me the info about the school you went to as well?

I'm really interested in going to the US for training and then coming back to Canada but I have no idea about what schools are good for it. I've just heard that the schools in Ontario (Humber, Cent, etc) are extremely competetive and that they mostly take people with university degrees. It's pretty discouraging as I'm only in grade 12.

Can you shoot me the info as well?
