I am seeking information on EMR (emergency medical responder) training for my girlfriend. I am already in EMS but she is seeking and EMR position for pt contact hours. She is attempting to get into med school and need the contact hours. Already in a post bachlorette program she doesn't have the time for and EMT class. I was hoping this would be shorter and can still get her on an ambulance to get some hours in.

The EMR is a new concept to me as I come from NJ and we don't use them here, to my knowledge at least. Does anyone know if this cert will land her on an ambulance ?

She is currently living in Philadelphia and willing to travel within reason to get the hours as she needs. I know this may be a training may be a little below what people are usually seeking here but any information would be great.

I don't think EMR actually does much in regards to patient contact. The only time I've ever seen them used is as drivers.

Well, that and maybe at volunteer departments. That's not a very common route for people to take I don't think (EMR that is)

Most states require EMT at minimum to attend a patient in an ambulance. I don't know how her schools are counting patient contact hours, but I can't imagine driving an ambulance or first responding would count. EMT school isn't really that much longer if she finds a weekend class or something, and she'd likely find it requires very minimal time outside of class.

She would probably have to work with a fire department. EMR(formerly First Responder) is usually a level that firefighters are trained to unless it's an EMS/Fire agency.

In most places the difference between EMR and EMT is a few hours and skills. Both are pretty straight foreword and basic.
