Hi all, so I am hoping to be in the next intake into the EMT program at ESA(Emergency Services Academy), the deadline being March 7th for applications the problem is my security clearance will not be completed until Feb 24th. Once that is complete I have to submit application for my ACP registration and Exam then get those and submit all of it to ESA by march 7th. I guess what I am asking is does anyone know of a way to speed things up or if the school would be alright with a late ACP temp number? I live in Fort McMurray Alberta and really hoping for this to work out , just wondering if I am screwed or what.

You might be able to try driving somewhere else and seeing if you can get the criminal record check done quicker elsewhere. It used to be that some detachments would print them out on the spot.

before you register for the course at emergency services academy, PLEASE make sure that they are on ACP's approved list of accredited schools... they have dropped hundreds of schools, and even RED CROSS is only approved in two locations. I haven't looked, but I know there are very few places you can take EMR or EMT that are approved by ACP. Also, make sure you have taken HCP CPR before applying. That certification was not included in my emr course through St. John Ambulance, and (not me as i am an instructor) alot of my class had their applications rejected without a current HCP ticket..

well the school is on the approved list, but they say basic rescuer cpr OR hcp, and ACP says definitely HCP. As well, it takes a few weeks for ACP to provide you with your temp even after you jump through all the hoops (hoop jumping myself right now)...
Your best bet is to contact the ESA directly to see if you can make it all work.

You'd have to double check with Elliot at ESA, but when I was there last year for my EMR I remember hearing that you could register for the EMT course without your ACP, as long as you were in the process of writing the exam/getting your certification. Seeing as you're waiting on your crim check I'm guessing you passed the test in January, so you should be okay.
