I am considering applying for jobs as an Emergency Department Technician (EDT) in one of the Detroit Health Systems once I complete my EMT-B this spring. I am about to graduate with my bachelor's degree and while I have worked throughout my education I do not have the patient contact necessary to apply to PA school, which I hope to apply to in 2 or 3 years.
Would working as an EDT offer me medical experience, patient contact, and enough money to pay living expenses and maybe help pay for a few community college courses (prerequisites for PA school not included in my degree)?
If anyone has insight from personal experience working as an EDT, I would be grateful for a real-world view pertaining to what I can gain from this experience. I have seen other posts on this forum involving EDT's but am not sure how this would work out in my circumstances.
Thank you in advance for your time and advice.
