Hi All- soon to be a new EMT-finishing my class soon and looking at career opportunities out of state. How easy is it for a newbie to get a job without experience? or should I stay and get a little experience first?

It depends on where you look and what kind of job you're looking for. Mom and pop places are usually pretty easy to get jobs at. Jobs with career potential are a bit more competitive. Any idea on where you want to move to? Find somewhere you'd like to live and look in those areas (except California...)

thanks for the info! I had heard CA was a little tough. Thinking Boston, Memphis or somewhere in Colorado. Just ready for a change in scenery! Should be taking my Registry beginning of July.

Boston is a good place to start as a basic, as you can only promote to Paramedic if you're certified as a medic and there's a spot open. Memphis FD is the 911 provider in Memphis, and I'd steer clear. There are several good places in Colorado to look at. You might also wanna look at parts of Texas, lots of services you can actually make a career out of it.

thanks! I'm in a high volume town right now, so I am thinking of getting 6 months or so experience first just so I am not too new
