Hey everyone,
Just curious what kind of flashlights most of you out there are carrying for night calls? Bunch of squad members are carrying around Surefires and Streamlights. The Surefires were a little pricey and Streamlights a little too big for my liking... After doing a little searching I came across Fenix and have one on order after seeing it vs. surefires on this site <Spam link removed> Anyway, I'll let you guys know how things turn out when I get it and compare it to some of the other squad lights!

Fenix PD30 on me all the time.

I do also keep a surefire E2E in my EMS jumpsuit.

I carry for night calls when I remember to bring it is a Maglight 3 D cell. Although I have been considering getting another Maglight a 5 D cell model.

Don't bother. There isn't much use for it and it's impractical to carry around. A 3-cell is more than enough.

I carried around a Novatac 120T. It's compact, bright if need be and not so bright if need be. Worked very well for me.

The reason I like big heavy flashlight comes from the fact that I have been involved in the security field since 1985. I have been involved with EMS for 15 months. In security I have worked in various setting from hotel security to working at some of the rowdiest bars as a bouncer. In my time working security I have been told by other security personnel and some LEO's when I was starting that bigger is better. Way back in the mid 80's the police in my area only carried this on their belts.
Smith and Wesson model 10 .38spl
Spare ammo pouch
Handcuffs
Flashlight
Portable radio
Keys

If you notice way back when the police here did not carry
Baton
Pepper spray
Taser.

Because the police didn't carry a baton they liked the big 5 D cell maglights and they recommended that security guards do the same.

I've carried both a Surefire G2 and a Fenix TK11. I like both of them. They are easy to carry and don't take up much room. I never leave home without one of them. I do like the tail cap on the TK11 better. I've had less problem with it turning on when it is in my pocket. I also like the push button better than the twist cap. Just my input.

How does that apply to EMS? Do you plan to whack your patients with it if they get rowdy?

Your darn right!

But in seriousness, Ive carried a Streamlight Stinger for about 5 years now and love it.

Well... A flashlight is an important piece of equipment at any emergency service. If you're looking for a single multi purpose one you should consider all obvious factors as size, weight, effectiveness, price, replacement parts, ...

I recommend to everyone working both day time and night time shifts to have two. A small lightweight one at all times and a more powerful one to be carried at night.

In my case, I carry a 2AAA Mini Mag Lite at all times on my duty belt in addition to a disposable "pen light".

At night I got a couple of 4 D Cell Mag Lite flashlights with LED upgrade available. One of them always comes with me.

At the office I keep a 2 D Cell Mag Lite flashlite with LED upgrade. Blackouts are not that uncommon in this part of the world especially when I'm here (summer months) and using the patrol / emergency flashlights routinely is not a smart move.

For aquatic operations I use a 2 C Cell Pelican LED flashlight as a primary light (a head light and a regular underwater flashlight as secondary ones).

For mountain / wilderness / SAR operations I use in addition to a Mag a Petzl head light.

Not sure how often and what for will you use yours but hope this helped.
