I'm sure this topic has come up and I did search but just didn't find what I was looking for.

I just got my first EMT job, just a transfer service with Rural/Metro. However the guy hired me today and told me that my employment was dependant on my driving record. I'm 22 and I haven't had a ticket since 2005 and those were my last tickets and I've been a very careful driver but i'm worried about that record. The tickets I had in 2005 were tickets he said was a 'non hirable' offense but he couldn't tell me if they would count them or not considering their age, best thing he could give me was that we'd continue with my hiring process and cross that bridge when they got the report back.

My other concern was I had an accident in 2006 that was at fault, a minor fender bender, however that due to road conditions (two other collisions occuredthere right before I got there).

Am I screwed for the rest of my career, is it over before it's even begun?

it depends on the service. i have worked for companies that require you to have a valid license in good standing. beyond that, they dont look too far into it. mainly because they dont want to know.

i have worked for others that were much like you described.

if things dont work with your first job attempt, try again. be honest because they will fin out if you lie. eventually you'll find a company thats a good fit for you.

We talked about it in the interview and I told ihm I was unaware of getting a ticket for more than 15 (which is their cut off).

He told me that it would be ok that they'd find out for sure themselves. Then when I got home I found a 'criminal report' that listed all my traffic violations I'd ever received.

There aren't too many services in my area so that makes me a bit weary. I will keep trying but I just wish I knew what some of the various policies were. If it's a 3 year max then after mid march it will be 3 years to the date I got the big speeding ticket.

well...i have one "BIG" speeding ticket and im not proud of it but....i have a interview tomarrow and im gunna br completely honest and i also printed out my driving record so.....i guess we'll find out...good luck
