A family member recently went mountain biking, wearing full gear, great physical shape, years of exuberent experience. Going rapidly down a trail, he somehow lost it, went over the handlebars, and was killed instantly (probably C1-C2 fx, maybe "cram" type basal skull fx). Nothing anyone could do.
He was a good man, but it will still be hard on his wife and kids. Keep your loved ones close, your friendships in good repair, and remember that every patient is (or, tragically, was) someone's loved one.

This is horrible to hear. Thoughts and prayers to yall. Life is precious and can change way too quick.

Found something out like this when my girlfriend died this year. Made me so happy hte last words I told her were that I loved her, not yelling or fighting.

One of the things I always try to remember. I can't count the times I have plaid awake at night, worried about my husband for no reason, and have gotten so far as planning his funeral.

Brown always tries Brown's hardest to make up with Mrs Brown at the time.

Brown always makes a point to tell Mrs Brown Brown loves her

Brown always tells Mrs Brown each night that Brown loves her

Gosh, Brown sure has been suckered in good, dang Mrs Brown :D

The Brown's Alright!

except when she's breaking out the heavy frying pans during an argument.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Your point is well taken; what's important is that we keep in mind at any time and with all our patients the sudden loss of connection they experience (at whatever level) feels no different to them than it would to us.

As Charlie Brown said, "Pain hurts!"
