Tasers For Sale
by: bpresken@sbgnet.com

Stun guns are now for sale in the state of Florida...
The company that makes the stun gun...Taser International...is starting an advertising campaign to get its product into more civilian hands.
They can be expensive as well...models start at about 400 dollars and go up to one-thousand dollars.
But not everyone is happy with the decision to sell the 50-thousand volt weapons to the public.

Ok... I don't see a weblink as to where this si from, so I'm just going on the blurb you posted.

I don't see what is wrong with having a Taser.... Safer and less deadly then a firearm, but still effective at stopping someone.

As for a taser being used in commission of a crime.... Taser International packs the cartridges with little confetti pieces with the cartridge S/N - each serial number is registered to the individual Taser owner it was sold to..... Taser International will help local PD track you down if you used a Taser illigially, and help get you convicted..... they protect their image....

I am certified in the use of the Taser and I carry one at work. The great thing about the Taser is it "Stores" information. Each cartridge carries AFIDS that are blown out atthe scene when it is used.

We have had numersou Taser uses with no negative effects. Most bad-guys aren't going to spend up to a grand for something to use in a crime.

Plus, the Taser is labled "Less-Lethal" dirtbags already have their access to handguns that can kill you right away.

I am all for the private citizen to be afforded the carry of a Taser. Just like any other weapon, just because you can carry it, does not give you the "Right" to use it whenever you want.

that was what I was saying....

I love the idea... but any PD that is going to use them needs to have a good policy on post-use evaluation to prevent "sudden in-custody death syndrome" often second to excieted delirum....

I am glad you brought up SICD. It has been studied, reviewed and studied again. The most recent term used now is "Restraint Asphyxia" Charly Miller has a website that reviews studies.

Taser International has released information regarding the use of the Taser and Exited Delirium/Restraint Asphyxia.

It does warn against "constant" or multiple applications to the same subject. The problem lies with TRAINING!

In most departments, to carry ANY weapon or tool, ther is "certification" training and a policy in place. We have strict guidelines we must follow before, during and after the use of any weapon we carry/use.

If a person relies too much on a single tool ie: PR-24, you end up with a Rodney King incident. The same can be said for ASP (espandable Baton) a firearm or anything else.

I'm with you, no matter what you carry, you better get some training. If you are going to carry a "weapon" of any sort on an ambulance, you better have a policy in place that allows for such.
