I am curious to hear experiences about those that have ditched the desk job to go for an EMS/paramedic position. Anyone??

It makes me feel cheap to know that all those failing auto workers who didn't go to school and didn't think ahead are now applying for EMT school.

adventure my ***

I had a desk job once. Spent 2 years in furniture school to have someone use my mouth as a pencil sharpener.

You can sharpen pencils with your mouth?

well if you get educated in being a desk you can take an additional 4 hour class to expand your scope to include pencil sharpening with your mouth.

If it counts, I'm going from a full-time software developer position to also having a part-time EMT position at our local EMS, that runs somewhere around 1,200 calls a year (estimate).

I have the best of both worlds I guess....

I am a road supervisor/battalion chief for a large EMS service; I basically have the ability to pick and choose my calls 90% of the time, basically responding as a first responder/supervisor.

I love working on the road and outside...I get to drive someone elses car, someone elses gas, someone elses laundry service, do my errands on city time (between calls), flirt with the ER staff...flirt with the ER staff, flirt with the ER staff oh did I say flirt with the ER staff.

On the flip side....

I am a certified communications/operations boss that regualrly has to do desk duty to supervise in the center, complete reports, fill call outs, scheduling, meetings, and deal with the occasional spat between employees with no flirting on site....
as you probably already know...I hate this flip side....THE OFFICE SUCKS!!
