D.C. Woman Dies After Waiting More Than an Hour for Ambulance

Story by nbc4.com

A 39-year-old woman's family says she died after waiting more than an hour for an ambulance, and a fire official says crew members did not hear the dispatch.
Cassandra Bailey, 39, was waiting for an ambulance at the Capitol Hill Dialysis Center on N Street Southeast on March 14, where she went there three times a week for dialysis, according to Antonio Evans, a friend, and Brenda Bailey, Cassandra's sister.

The family said that more than an hour went by before a fire truck and EMT workers finally arrived, followed by an ambulance, but Bailey died minutes after arriving at the Washington Hospital Center.

An Ambulance... :P

I wonder if the fact that the ambulance never acknowledged dispatch by going enroute might have been an indication that maybe there was a communication problem?!?!?!?

On the other hand, the fact that the lady had ESRD and probably HTN and DM had nothing to do with her death!! It couldn't have been the pathophysiology of diease that caused here demise, so it must be the ambulance's fault!!!!!

My question is was she having an active medical problem or did she need a ride back home?

Also, if she actually had a problem... was it Chest Pain, or was it "my toe hurts"???

So, the lady was at Dialysis waiting for EMS? Last time I checked, Nurses worked there, and I think some of them are ACLS certified. We all know that Dailysis pateints are high risks for codes during and post dialysis R/T fluid/hemodynamic issues and other disease processes...The nursing staff should have been ablr to provide adequate care while awaiting transport by EMS.
