I recently had a young patient who was a "cutter" meaning she deliberately cut herself repeatedly as a means of dealing with her stress. This prompted me to do a little research on the subject. After reading another post here that brought up the topic I thought I'd share a link with you all. I encourage everyone to read through it as this is something we will all come into contact with at some point.

I get these patients almost on a daily basis. ^^^ that is some good stuff. I really like the resources on the side of the page, especially the door of hope for teens program. I will definitely be mentioning that to my female patients from now on.

Big logical fail in your post. While self injury is more common in teenage girls there are significant numbers of males and adults also affected.

True. 98% of my psychiatric calls are females. Unfortunately, that site I mentioned is focused on teenage girls. Although I can only suggest this service to teenage girls, I will also be sure to inform all my male/adult patients that there are many helpful resource programs online that could be of great help. I guess I shouldn't have left that out on my previous post.

Interesting point. I ran into this recently myself.
