so i'm in my senior year of high school and i am planning on getting emt-b certified over the summer. im pretty excited! afterwards im going to try and work and keep going to school in the fall
just a few general questions
is it hard getting a job right now with the economy?
do they polygraph emts at fire dpts or private ambulance services?
what is your work shedule like during the week? ie. two 24 hour shifts, 7 am to 7 pm etc...

thanks!!:)

Good luck gettting a job anywhere but FD if you're under 21. Privates usually require at least 21 due to insurance, but some are as high as 23, at least here in NM. As for getting a job, there are way too many first aid providers (EMT-B) in the job market, meaning that finding a job for one might be tough.

All your questions depend soley on the state you're in.

Access to jobs can be good or bad, again, just depends on your state/city.

In Texas, a private company is not allowed to adminster a polygraph unless it's in the security field or something of that nature. Gov't agencies can use them all they want.

Shifts also depend on the company, and even the shift you choose. At AMR, I can do 8, 12, 16, or 24 hours shifts, my choice.

After a quick google, VA Beach FD requires an Intermediate level minimum.

Good luck weezer591 on getting our emt this summer.hope everything goes well..

In California, EMT"s are dime in a dozen. You have a better chance if you become a medic but thats a different story. Certain places require different tests i.e. skills/written/interviews. Work schedule also depends on the companies, comes have 12hr shifts, some have 10's and 24's. It also depends on your superiority also. But good luck in your EMT class
