LEOMINSTER— While wildlife has been encroaching more and more into populated areas, you still don’t expect a large mammal to suddenly become your co-pilot.
A 500-pound moose ended up in the front seat of Juleigh McDowell’s 1994 Mercury Tracer as she drove up Central Street shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday. The animal, which appeared calm but nervous, had its head out the window it had just crashed through.
However, the young male moose had to be euthanized because of internal injuries and broken bones, according to Officer John L. Callan of the state Environmental Police.
