Children's specialist 'ambulance' stolen

They noted that there was no medical equipment or drugs onboard, so its just a car. They make a big deal about someone stealing a car. It happens, all the time.

Yes, a well labelled emergency car used specifically for the purpose of responding to paediatric emergencies.

No different from any EMS service which uses a SUV for the same purpose.

It's not "just a car."

Except apparently all the equipment is in jump bags that aren't stored in the vehicle. Our District Chief QRS trucks are fully loaded with the same bags as the ambulances carry in addition to extra MCI equipment, some specialized medications, and a good amount of narcs, not to mention a laptop mounted up front.

It sounds like in this case they lost a car with a cool paint job and a lightbar.

I'm not saying this isn't newsworthy, as ambulance thefts are often reported in the news, but it sounds like they could put this truck back in service with a paint job and a light bar.

Saying the life of a baby is in jeapordy by the theft is a bit dramatic.

Pop them on to another truck and send them. They can still respond just in a different truck.

Just because the jump bags containing specialized meds and equipment are prudently removed from the vehicle when it is left unattended for an extended period of time doesn't make the vehicle less important than yours.

They also lost the ability for that paramedic to respond to a critical incident until that vehicle was replaced. They also have someone in possession of an emergency vehicle that could conceivably be used for a criminal activity including terrorism.

That car isn't exactly nondescript.

Exactly, which means that it could get access to areas which other civilian vehicles may not.

I know, it's a stretch, but not beyong the realm of possibility.
