Hello Hello!

I'm brand new still wrapped in plastic and decided to join up and see what everyone has to say! I am a paramedic graduate that is from Ont,Canada. My preference would be to head out west and work in Alberta (Oil Rigs) - but I'm up for any new adventure. I hear Dubai/Abu Dhabi is a great way to make your resume look a little more lean - however any advice on other countries and other interesting experiences out there I'm game to hear!

There is good money out west. I am in the hiring process now with one. Are you an ACP or a PCP?
It may be harder to find international work as a PCP. Most job postings from the middle east and like places I have seen want ACPs with 5 or so years experience.

Good luck and welcome to EMTLIFE. It is great to see more Canadians signing on here.

Medic Tim - I am a PCP for now. How are you finding the registration process? And was it hard for you to find the company that you wanted? Or did you just take what you could get? I have been warned about some companies leaving you hung out to dry at some of the postings or it paying you on time etc. have you heard anything like this?

I have been waiting 6 weeks or so since I sent my apps into BC and AB. I am already licensed in NB and NS. I am surprised it has taken this long since I am transferring in. I have a phone interview with a company as soon as one of the licenses comes through. They liked my resume so my fingers are crossed. I know several people from the east coast who have gone to work for this company and I have not heard a complaint about them not getting paid or put in awkward positions.

So are you able to register and get licensed with another province and not necessarily work there? I'm just curious why you would want to be registered with other provinces - other then the obvious (more options??).

I was one of the first ACPs licensed in NB .ACP started here in Aug 2011. I applied for EHS in NS and was offered a casual position but I would have had to drive over 12 hours round trip for each 12 hour shift so I declined. NB still runs all pcp with expanded scope but they are supposed to be hiring ACPs sometime this year. I am licensing out west because the money is good and they will fly me back and forth every 2 weeks on their dime. To keep my skills I volunteer for an ems service in Maine.
