Just got my AHA 'BLS for Healthcare Providers' certification!
For the part of Florida I'm in that's real basic - means I can do CPR and use an AED. The instructor (who was an EMT-P; he did a great job teaching us) also showed us how to (try to, at least) stop choking.
One more step towards me becoming a CFR (or EMR, to some ;))!
Exciting! :D <3

Weird they wouldn't integrate BLS CPR as apart of your First Responder course. When I did my EMR course(Canadian version) it was apart of the course.

Most places its a separate course to make it fit as a prereq for multiple programs and fit into the degree track.

Was a pre-req for my EMT course. From a specific agency too.

The EMR course I took integrated Standard First Aid and CPR/AED BLS. So we all got that certification as well. I know some courses have a pre-req for SFA CPR BLS. Guess it just depends on the college.

I've got a long ways to go before I become an actual First Responder... too young right now.
I just took the BLS class to be prepared. :)

Smart idea. How old are you? I took my EMR at 16 and am now 17. It's a pre-req for the paramedic course at the college I'm going to.

I just turned 16. I've looked into all the EMS agencies near me and none of them have EMR/CFR courses for minors, that I've been able to find (or not find? Lol. :)) :/

Oh okay. I know how you feel. Back when I lived in Alberta, Canada I was trying to take an EMR course but you had to be 18 every place I checked. I got lucky and managed to take one in BC. It's good that you're preparing though!

It depends on where you live. I was an EMR when I was 16, but I live in NY. Even if you can't get in a course yet don't let that discourage you from buying a book and start studying. You will have a significant advantage over your classmates if you walk into class on the first day with a good understanding of the course, as many new students struggle with certain topics i(*cough* anatomy *cough) if they are seeing them for the first time. Good luck perusing your career!

I've already started reading books on anatomy (good thing I like big words! ;)) and other EMS-related topics. I review with my sis and she says I'm driving her crazy! Lol. :)
