Our paramedic class is planning on attending Clincon in Orlando this July to compete in the Paramedic Student division of the ALS competition.

Have any of you been to either this particular competition or any simliar?

Tell me about them. What to expect? What not to expect? Hints/Tips/Suggestions....

Excellent! Florida has some of the toughest competitors at the ALS event. Truly the Super Bowl of EMS competition. Boca Raton Fire Rescue was one of my favorites.

Read CAREFULLY all the instructions provided about the equipment that you will have at your access.

Expect very real props including crowds, pushy family members and barking dogs to distract you.

Expect multiple patient scenarios like riots, poisonings, car racing incidents involving the crowd etc.

One year they had parachuters hanging from trees. Another patient was a SCREAMING pregnant woman.

A "live" victim will be there for you to assess and a manikin to perform invasive skills on. Coordinating between the 2 may get a little confusing.

Good Luck!

That sounds awesome, i've never heard of this before. I would love to watch that! Good luck!
