Has anyone else ever seen this?

Witnessed Arrest in the rig. Pt went into V-Fib, shocked biphasic at 200 joules and then had a pretty signifigant of blood discharged from the nose.

There was no oral or nasal airway placed.

What caused the arrest?

Could it have just been a burst of pressure from the muscle contraction?

when i squat and deadlift (i powerlift) i get the rare nosebleed, maybe the same thing. just a sudden spike in BP from muscle contraction?

i had an infant transpot team member with me once and he was telling about a time they defibrillated an infant and it shot a terd across the ambulance.
what meds was he on and what med Hx?

There it is. HTN easily breaks the small vessels inside the nose. I had to transport a pt once for epistaxis secondary to a "life changing bowel movement".

Pushed so hard he popped a vessel. Which is not uncommon, the vessels proximity to the surface makes them susceptible to rupture.
