Hi all

I was asked a question about the difference between BiPAP and BIPAP?? I have searched and couldn't find any answers.

I am not sure if there any difference.
I was told that BIPAP is a registered name belonging to Drager?

Another idea was that BiPAP is non-invasive and BIPAP is invasive.

Any ideas or thought will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There are many different names used since there are many different ventilator manufacturers from several diffferent companies.

BiLevel is also a trade marked name for Puritain Bennett. It is also APRV.

Since each machine brings some unique characteristic to the delivery of Biphasic ventilation, it is difficult to lump them all under one name.

One has to know the equipment they are working with to know if it is actually the mode they want.

Thanks VentMedic

I have to agree I have been looking around and every I have found, points to the terms being used in different ways.
No straight forward definition.

No straight forward definition.

That is because everyone is unique.

Besiders the 2 level ventilation, there are several variations such as APAP, VAP, PEV, Volume Guarantee etc.

Buying a ventilator is like buying a car.

You must cost the flow, gas consumption, turbine, compressor, valving, entrainment, chassis, purposse, cost, durability etc.

While Ford and Ferrari both have a D (drive) mode, I would not say they are the same.

Paramedic school will try to over simplify these terms and ventilators in general which gets many into serious problems when they later choose and use them.
